When the iconic photographer journeyed to Greece with Silversea Cruises in June 2018, the stage was set for an authentic portrayal of one of Europe’s most romantic destinations.
With just one week to craft his art, Steve McCurry set his lens upon Athens and Santorini – perhaps two of Greece’s most photographed destinations. Many of the country’s staple sights feature in his work – the blue-domed, whitewashed houses of Santorini; hints of the close-knit community culture that pervades life here; and the breathtaking coastal landscapes experienced by travelers on cruises to Greece – yet, in his usual fashion, the legendary photographer manages to transport us deep into the destination in a manner that is altogether unique. With each image, we can practically hear the rhythmic beat of dimotiki music, feel the warm afternoon breeze on our skin, and exchange friendly pleasantries with locals.
